Improving the building envelope will therefore lead to considerable savings in heating and\/or cooling requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"type-numerotation\"><span class=\"type-numerotation-span visually-hidden\"><\/span>Definition of requirements for improving the energy envelope of buildings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Determination of the need for improvements to the building envelope<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Careful analysis by an engineering office (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oai.lu\/fr\/9\/topmenu\/annuaire-membres\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>technical consultant<\/u><\/a>) is strongly recommended. Improvements can be detected using thermal imaging, drilling samples of the external walls or simply estimates of the constitution of the building envelope based on the year of construction and the experience of the envelope specialists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The answers to the following questions will help to determine the renovation strategy and the need for envelope improvements<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What are the heating requirements in relation to the heated surface area?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What are the heating costs?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How much can I save on heating costs thanks to these improvements?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can I get financial subsidies?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is the condition of the building envelope, foundations, cellar and roof?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are there problems with draughts, cold rooms or overheating?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are there any long-term plans to expand (or redevelop) the premises?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-green-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-green-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0f357741f6306de1b8e94ec134e54a40\"><strong><strong>Further information<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An energy renovation of the building envelope is often carried out in stages for financial reasons (level of investment, tax deduction, etc.). It can therefore be useful to integrate the improvement of the envelope into the organisation&#8217;s long-term property strategy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As the need for heat falls sharply after an energy renovation, it is strongly advised to install a new heat production unit after the envelope has been improved, to avoid oversizing the heating system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"type-numerotation\"><span class=\"type-numerotation-span visually-hidden\"><\/span>Implementation of specific measures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The following points should be borne in mind when planning and implementing the project:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Roof<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Combine with the construction of a solar thermal (hot water production) or photovoltaic (electricity production) system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The correct construction from a building physics point of view must be ensured by a specialist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flat roofs: green roofs regulate the climate, create additional ecological living space and relieve the drainage system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pitched roof: Insulation can be installed between the rafters, between and below the rafters, or above the rafters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In all cases, the airtight layer must be checked<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Windows and facade<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If possible, combine fa\u00e7ade insulation with the installation of new windows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ideally, the width of the frame should allow the window reveal to be insulated at a later date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fa\u00e7ade insulation is generally fitted externally; in exceptional cases (heritage, etc.), it may be necessary to fit insulation internally. In this specific case, it is strongly recommended that you contact an engineering office, as the installation is more technical.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fa\u00e7ade insulation can be installed as a compact system or as a ventilated curtain wall, depending on the final cladding chosen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Cellar ceiling and attic slab insulation<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid heating unused rooms (cellars and attics) from adjacent heated rooms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Don&#8217;t forget to insulate doors, staircases and walls between heated and unheated rooms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the maximum possible thickness of insulation, without covering heating pipes or other technical installations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-green-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-green-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d2e6e4d8df5e148c31b1fcab8efcc455\"><strong><strong>Explanation of thermal bridges<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A zone that conducts heat better and transports it outside more quickly. To be avoided as far as possible during energy renovations (e.g. window reveals, balconies, beams, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Can lead to local condensation and mould problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid creating thermal bridges when carrying out insulation work or replacing windows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Installation of controlled ventilation<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The more airtight the building, the lower the natural air exchange. To guarantee air quality within the building, it can be useful to install controlled ventilation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Controlled ventilation also serves to recover heat from stale air (only its heat, transmitted to fresh air via a heat exchanger), prevent damage from humidity and ensure good, constant air quality as required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"type-numerotation\"><span class=\"type-numerotation-span visually-hidden\"><\/span>Subsidy application<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Government subsidies<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-green-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-green-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-84beb9f3956b31b65474c09246582de8\"><strong>Attention: incentive effect to be complied with when applying for subsidies (state or otherwise) and subject to meeting the eligibility conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to respect the &#8220;incentive effect&#8221;, no binding commitment (signing a quotation; paying a deposit) may be made BEFORE submitting the application file or receiving the agreement in principle from the State or the electricity and natural gas supplier following a subsidy application.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/guichet.public.lu\/fr\/entreprises\/financement-aides\/regime-sme-packages\/soutien-pme\/sme-packages-sustainability.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u><strong><\/strong><\/u><\/a><u><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/guichet.public.lu\/en\/entreprises\/financement-aides\/regime-sme-packages\/soutien-pme\/sme-packages-sustainability.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u><strong>SME Packages &#8211; Sustainability<\/strong><\/u><\/a><\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Financial Aid for small and medium-sized enterprises covering up to 70% of eligible costs for the implementation of a project aimed at reducing the environmental impact. The eligible project budget must be in a range from 3.000 \u20ac to 25.000 \u20ac excl.
