By adapting landscaping and infrastructure, it is possible to preserve water resources in a sustainable way by maximising rainwater harvesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This measure combines water savings, biodiversity preservation and greater resilience to climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"type-numerotation\"><span class=\"type-numerotation-span visually-hidden\"><\/span>Analysing water needs for outdoor facilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Analysis of water flows outdoors<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Quantify the drinking water used outdoors<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Install meters and sub-metering systems;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monitor consumption and detect anomalies (e.g. potential leaks risks).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-green-background-color has-background\"><strong>\u26d4A dripping tap equates to a loss of 5 litres of water per hour. 120 litres per day. Nearly 43m<sup>3<\/sup> per year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Quantify potentially <\/strong><strong>recoverable<\/strong><strong> water flows<\/strong> using a rainwater harvesting system, for uses that do not require drinking water<ul><li>Conduct a feasibility study to determine resources and needs;<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Select the most appropriate technical solutions;<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure and maintain the energy efficiency of the technical solutions implemented in the water recovery system over time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Increase on-site infiltration capacity<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assess soil permeability, site topography, and drainage possibilities. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Quantify the water flows to be temporarily retained to reduce flow rates and the overflow risks<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assess the impermeability on site in relation to stormwater retention needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Implementation of various measures<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Landscape areas according to natural water flows<\/strong><ul><li>Install retention areas or basins to capture and infiltrate rainwater<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Design slopes and channels to direct water towards plants or designated drainage areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reduce impervious surfaces<\/strong><ul><li>Replace paving stones or asphalt with permeable materials to promote water infiltration<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Integrate green roofs to capture and use rainwater efficiently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Choose suitable and resistant plants<\/strong><ul><li>Consult a qualified horticulturist and prioritize native or climate-adapted, species that are low in water demand, allowing for better infiltration or evapotranspiration.<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reduce or eliminate lawns in favour of ground covers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Adopt water-efficient irrigation methods<\/strong><ul><li>Opt for drip or underground irrigation systems to minimise evaporation.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Water early in the morning or in the evening to prevent water loss due to heat.<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Install timers or humidity sensors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Set up a water action plan<\/strong><ul><li>Carry out a water audit and have a professional draw up an action plan;<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Include in the action plan procedures for water use in and around the building and establish monitoring indicators to measure the impact and improvement with the water management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Set contractual water consumption targets with service providers<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To involve the entire value chain in the company&#8217;s water management measures, it is recommended to include water efficiency requirements in tenders and \u00a0relevant clauses to contracts for the design and maintenance of outdoor spaces.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"type-numerotation\"><span class=\"type-numerotation-span visually-hidden\"><\/span>Subsidy application <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Government subsidies<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-light-green-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p><strong>Please note: any application for government or non-government subsidies must comply with the \u201cincentive effect\u201d, subject to compliance with the subsidy conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to comply with the incentive effect, no binding commitment (signing a quote; paying a deposit) may be made BEFORE submitting the application file or receiving the agreement in principle from the government or the electricity and natural gas supplier following a&nbsp;subsidy application.<a><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/guichet.public.lu\/en\/entreprises\/financement-aides\/regime-sme-packages\/soutien-pme\/sme-packages-sustainability.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>SME Packages \u2013 Sustainability<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Subsidy for small and medium-sized enterprises, covering up to 70% of eligible costs for projects aimed at reducing their environmental impact.
